Disney has announced plans to expand the universe of its main franchises with the help of Epic Games development studio. The collaboration, which has been ongoing for years, will create a new ecosystem that integrates Disney’s beloved stories and experiences with Fortnite.
This expansion will be powered by Epic Games’ graphics engine, Unreal Engine, which has been used in popular games such as Kingdom Hearts 3 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as well as in the editing and animation of films and streaming content. With this collaboration, Disney will offer opportunities for consumers to play, watch, buy, and interact with content, characters, and stories from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, and more.
“We are collaborating on something completely new to build a persistent, open and interoperable ecosystem that will unite the Disney and Fortnite communities,” said Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games. Additionally, Disney will invest $1.5 billion to acquire an equity stake in Epic Games subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals.
The proposed expansion has sparked excitement among fans of both companies who eagerly anticipate what new content could be coming their way. Some are already speculating about how this new universe could bring together some of their favorite characters from different worlds into one cohesive storyline.
