In an exclusive interview with Paris Match, Brigitte Macron revealed that she waited a decade to marry French President Emmanuel Macron in order to ensure the well-being of her children. The couple first began dating when Emmanuel was just 15 years old and Brigitte was his drama teacher.
The 70-year-old first lady discussed the challenges she faced in her relationship with her 45-year-old husband, including concerns for her children’s lives. She emphasized that she took the time to guide them before marrying Emmanuel, ultimately making the decision to do so after ten years had passed.
Their relationship began in Amiens, France when Brigitte was 40 and Emmanuel was a student in her drama class. Despite initial resistance from his parents and her own worries about age differences, they continued their romance. After divorcing her ex-husband in 2006, she went on to marry Emmanuel in 2007.
Brigitte and her late ex-husband had three children together, who are now adults. Following their divorce, she was able to support Emmanuel as he rose through the political ranks and eventually became the French President in 2017.
