The Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) has released its Preseason Coaches Polls for three winter sports: boys basketball, girls basketball and ice hockey. These preseason polls will be the only coaches polls released for the 2023-24 winter season, as CHSAA will focus its efforts on publicizing its Seedings Index as rankings for boys and girls basketball and ice hockey. MaxPreps will also compile individual rankings for swimming & diving, while On The Mat will provide wrestling rankings this year.
Unlike coaches polls, the CHSAA Seeding Index is the main factor used to determine qualification and postseason seedings for all team sports. This index takes into account a wide range of factors such as win-loss record, strength of schedule, quality of opponent and more. It provides teams, coaches, schools and fans with a more accurate understanding of where a team ranks throughout the season, especially in the lead up to the postseason.
To qualify for the CHSAA Postseason Seeding Index, teams must meet a minimum number of games played. Games and minimums are determined by MaxPreps and vary by sport and time of the season. With that, the Seedings Index will not be available at the start of every season. The rankings will be published once teams get deeper into their seasons (approximately 3-5 weeks into a particular season).
All live data can be found on the CHSAA Selection & Seeding Index website.
