The new Chargers head coach, Jim Harbaugh, has made the decision to retain Ryan Ficken, who is currently serving as his special teams coordinator. This move was announced by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Ficken is 43 years old and has been the Chargers’ special teams coordinator since 2022. Prior to this role, he spent 15 seasons as an assistant coach in Minnesota, where he also served as the Vikings’ special teams coordinator in 2021.
Harbaugh had a different experience with his son Jay during his time at Michigan. Harbaugh was the Wolverines’ special teams coordinator and Jay was one of his assistants. It is reported that Jay will be moving on to become the Seahawks’ special teams coordinator for the upcoming season.
