The College Sports Communicators Division I Men’s Soccer Academic All-District Team recently named James Madison redshirt juniors Davide Materazzi and Demitri Turner. To be eligible for this honor, athletes had to have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and have started in 66% or competed in 90% of all matches.
Materazzi, who is in his first semester of the sport and recreation leadership graduate program at JMU, earned his bachelor’s degree in sport management with a cumulative GPA of 3.579 while at Davis & Elkins. This season, he has started all 19 matches, scored two goals, and helped anchor the team’s defense.
Turner, a quantitative finance major with a 3.762 GPA, has also started all 19 matches this season and scored his first career goal against Coastal Carolina. He has a total of seven points this season.
JMU will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday, Nov. 25 to take on No. 25 Loyola Marymount in the round of 16 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m PT. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ with the winner taking on the winner of fifth-seeded West Virginia and Vermont in the quarterfinals.
The two players have been recognized for their academic achievements and their contributions to the team’s success throughout the season.
