On Monday, November 20th, Jane Bentham, an editorial assistant at the Global Mining Review, published an article about Freeport-McMoRan awarding Metso a contract for a tankhouse material handling solution. The deal is valued at over €10 million and will be included in the Minerals segment’s 4Q23 orders received.
Metso’s scope of delivery includes Outotec Anode Preparation and Cathode Stripping Machines, both based on proven designs that ensure high safety and long-term reliability. These machines utilize modern robotic electrode handling to optimize layout and material handling efficiency in the existing refinery.
Mikko Rantaharju, Vice President of Hydrometallurgy business line at Metso, expressed his satisfaction with this project and their continued collaboration with Freeport-McMoRan. He stated that they are confident that their technology will ensure high efficiency and quality of copper production in the El Paso copper electrorefinery after modernization. The solution combines their long-term experience with similar equipment with modern robot technology to meet the material handling requirements of the existing tankhouse.
