NOAA’s National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service has recently released the first of three reports on digital twin technologies. These reports were commissioned as part of the Joint Venture Partnerships program in 2022 with the goal of assessing the maturity of Earth observation digital twin technology and its potential integration into NOAA systems and operations.
The Science and Technology Corporation-authored report presents a prototype digital twin capability that aims to provide insights into costs, benefits, and technological requirements for digital twin technology. The remaining two reports, by Orion Space Solutions and Lockheed Martin, are expected to be released later this fall. These reports will further contribute to the understanding and potential implementation of digital twin technology at NOAA.
