NVIDIA has recently joined the U.S. Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC), which is a part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s efforts to promote safe and trustworthy AI development and deployment. As a member of AISIC, NVIDIA will collaborate with NIST and other consortium members to further the goals and objectives of the consortium.
NVIDIA’s involvement in AISIC builds upon the company’s track record of working with various stakeholders to ensure the safe and responsible development and deployment of AI. The company is actively involved in several development initiatives aimed at promoting AI safety, including NeMo Guardrails, an open-source software designed to ensure the accuracy, appropriateness, and security of large language model responses. In 2023, the company endorsed the Biden Administration’s voluntary AI safety commitments and also announced a $30 million contribution to the U.S. National Science Foundation’s National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource pilot program.
Through AISIC, NIST aims to foster knowledge sharing, applied research, and evaluation activities to drive innovation in trustworthy AI. AISIC members, including leading AI creators, academics, government and industry researchers, and civil society organizations, bring technical expertise in various areas related to AI governance, systems and development, psychometrics, and more.
