A severe thunderstorm struck the Zagreb area at around 2 a.m. tonight, disrupting the sleep of many locals and causing fear among those who were caught off guard. One Twitter user wrote, “What an apocalypse this is!” while another lamented that he had not expected thunder to wake him up at 3 a.m.
Facebook user Igor Kereš posted about his experience: “It’s two hours after midnight and I was woken up by a terrible thunder in pitch darkness. At first, I thought it was an earthquake.” Dunja Plačko Vršnak from DHMZ confirmed that the announced change in weather and cyclones moved over our area and brought us thunder with strong shocks. She said in Good morning, Croatia, “This weather is appropriate for the time of year.”
The intensity of the thunder was also confirmed by the EMSC tweet, as many people believed it was an earthquake. One EMSC user wrote, “Rumbling, slightly shaking,” while others left similar messages. Stenjevac user Siniša Žalac reported that there was a strong sound heard in the northern part of Zagreb during the storm.
